With currently demonstrated technologies available today, McKinsey estimate that in the USA at least, 60% of all occupations could see 30% of their constituent human activities automated…

 

This is higher in workplaces involves performing physical activities or operating machinery in a predictable environment. In this environment workers carry out specific actions in well-known settings where changes are relatively easy to anticipate. Through the adaptation and adoption of currently available technologies, McKinsey estimate the technical feasibility of automating such activities at 78 percent…other categories of work are also high on the automation hit list.

 

However, McKinsey go on to say that automation will eliminate very few occupations entirely in the next decade, but it will affect portions of almost all jobs to a greater or lesser degree. Automation, says McKinsey now goes beyond routine manufacturing activities and has the technically feasible potential, to transform sectors such as healthcare and finance, which involve a substantial share of knowledge work.
